+ Requisition no: 506793 + Work Type: Full Time + Location: Campus|Morningside + School/Department: null + Categories: Libraries Position Summary This position reports to the Manager of Collection Maintenance, Off-site Storage and Bindery. The incumbent is responsible for the physical integrity and efficient updating of various materials in a large, fast-paced library collection comprising three different classification systems over several floors of shelf space. Responsibilities + Pick up, sort and shelve library materials in call number order; shelf- read and maintain neatness in the stacks; independently manage book shifting projects to create shelf space (<100 shelves); search for missing books; open and sort library mail. + Participating in detailed planning, calculation and execution of complex group book shifts involving multiple floors. Other group projects such as processing donations, gathering library statistics, etc. + File English and German language updates into a variety of print resources, following detailed publishers' instructions. Pull superseded materials. Consult records in the library's ILS (TIND) to identify and solve problems. Communicating with CR staff toclaim missing materials. + Under direction of the Offsite Storage Coordinator, process damaged items and edit records in the library's ILS, according to parameters of special projects. + With minimal supervision, train and supervise part-time student workers in various collection maintenance tasks. + Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications + High school diploma or equivalent required. + Fluent in English and Intermediate knowledge of German language. + Academic library technical services experience and/or law library experience. + Some knowledge of how to review and edit bibliographic information in ILS catalog records in a variety of languages. + Intermediate to advance experience with Excel, word processing, and email required. + Intermediate to advance experience with Google software such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms. + Must have a strong service orientation and the ability to work both independently and in a team. + Strong written and verbal communication skills required. + Ability to work with dusty books and in dusty environments for extended periods. Preferred Qualifications + College degree preferred, but not required + Reading knowledge of additional Eastern/Western European languages. + Basic/intermediate knowledge of image editing software. Other Requirements + A foreign language test and Library of Congress call number order test will be given during interview. + Ability to push heavy book trucks, physically shift books for 1-2 hours at a time, stand for extended periods, ability to occasionally lift boxes up to 50 lbs.; stoop, squat, kneel, and reach overhead.
