POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs the more advanced technical work on mobile remote sensing survey projects and checks the work of in-house associates and outside consultants. Assists with quality and timeliness of project deliveries. Operates Department hardware and software in the processing, adjustment, and/or quality assurance of mobile remote sensing survey data and delivery of services.

Processes digital aerial photography and mobile remote sensing data. Operates stereo softcopy photogrammetric software for the preparation and evaluation of surface models from remotely sensed data. Performs volumetric computations from digital surface models. Produces topographic maps and other products from aerial photographs and remote sensing data.

Responds to customer requests and supports other Department teams on geospatial data management. Coordinates with districts and consultants to receive geospatial data and metadata on Department projects.

Researches industry best practices for remote sensing survey applications and formally presents ideas to management that are innovative, efficient, and/or exceptional.

Assists Mobile Surveying and Mapping team with quality assurance and archival of Department mobile survey imagery. Assists Mobile Surveying and Mapping team with processing and coordination for Quality Assurance Review (QAR) of district mobile survey project quality control plans.

Assists Mobile Surveying and Mapping team with research and testing of emerging mobile survey technologies.

Works closely with consultants on State Topographic Mapping Support contract projects, occasionally participating on-site for purposes of quality assurance.

Assists with training of Department personnel and associates in mobile remote sensing survey principles, work flows, quality assurance and in the use of Department hardware and software.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of surveying and mapping principles. Knowledge of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) & Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). Knowledge of remote sensing metadata processes and standards. Knowledge of Geospatial Software principles and application design. Knowledge of remote sensing survey principles and standards for Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Photogrammetry. Skilled in the use of geospatial database design and data manipulation. Skilled in using Department software for processing, adjustment and quality assurance of mobile remote sensing data. Skilled in remotely sensed surface interpretation and modeling. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. Skilled in photogrammetric compilation.

Ability to communicate scientific information effectively. Ability to prepare technical reports. Ability to check the remote sensing survey work of associates and consultants. Ability to train others in remote sensing technical concepts and procedures. Ability to see stereoscopically.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, and three years' experience or equivalent post-secondary education, in geospatial technology.
